Directed by Laurence Connor (who co-directed the new production of Les Misérables that is back on tour across North America after a hugely successful revival on Broadway, directed the award-winning new production of Miss Saigon that played London’s West End, Broadway and begins its national tour in 2018, and also directed the stage version of the movie School of Rock now playing on Broadway, in London’s West End, and on North American Tour), with choreography by Scott Ambler, set design by Paul Brown, Tony Award®-winning original costume design by Maria Björnson, lighting design by Tony Award®-winner Paule Constable, sound design by Mick Potter, and musical supervision by John Rigby. Dallas, TX (August 17, 2017) – Casting has been announced for Andrew Lloyd Webber’s LOVE NEVER DIES, the spellbinding sequel to THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA. The tour will play at the Music Hall at Fair Park July 24 – August 5, 2018 presented by Dallas Summer Musicals. The production will then head to Fort Worth, where it will play at Bass Performance Hall August 7-12, 2018 presented by Performing Arts Fort Worth.
Direct from the highly successful production of LOVE NEVER DIES in Hamburg, Germany, Gardar Thor Cortes will portray the man behind the mask, ‘The Phantom,’ with Meghan Picerno as ‘Christine Daaé,’ Karen Mason as ‘Madame Giry,’ Sean Thompson as ‘Raoul,’ Mary Michael Patterson as ‘Meg Giry,’ and Casey Lyons and Jake Heston Miller sharing the role of ‘Gustave.’ The trio of Phantom’s henchmen include Katrina Kemp as ‘Fleck,’ Richard Koons as ‘Squelch,’ Stephen Petrovich as ‘Gangle,’ Gardar Thor Cortes is appearing with the permission of Actors’ Equity Association. The producers gratefully acknowledge Actors’ Equity Association for its assistance of this production.
The ensemble includes Chelsey Arce, Erin Chupinsky, Diana DiMarzio, Tyler Donahue, Yesy Garcia, Alyssa Giannetti, Michael Gillis, Tamar Greene, Natalia Lepore Hagan, Lauren Lukacek, Alyssa McAnany, Rachel Anne Moore, Bronson Norris Murphy, Dave Schoonover, Adam Soniak, Kelly Swint, Lucas John Thompson, Correy West, Arthur Wise and Borris York.
LOVE NEVER DIES is a dazzling new production, which takes audiences on a thrilling rollercoaster ride of intrigue, obsession and romance. Audiences will be seduced by the beautiful, sometimes magical and poetic, sometimes joyful, and occasionally melancholic score. Don’t miss this magnificent continuation of one of the world’s greatest love stories.
The new touring production will reflect an extensive re-working of the material by an Australian creative team for the original Australian premiere in 2011. Described by Chris Boyd in The Australian as “The best thing Lloyd Webber has written in the quarter century since THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA”.
Directed by Simon Phillips (PRISCILLA QUEEN OF THE DESERT THE MUSICAL) with new set and costume designs by Gabriela Tylesova, choreography by 2011 Astaire Awards winner Graeme Murphy, lighting design by Nick Schlieper and sound design by Mick Potter, the show is one of the few instances of a major West End musical being given a complete makeover for subsequent productions.
Lloyd Webber said he knew about five minutes into seeing its first run-through that he and the new production team had achieved something special. “I have the great joy of being able to say that I think this production is probably the finest one I could ever, ever hope for.”
The year is 1907. It is 10 years after his disappearance from the Paris Opera House and The Phantom has escaped to a new life in New York where he lives amongst the screaming joy rides and freak shows of Coney Island. In this new, electrically charged world, he has finally found a place for his music to soar, but he has never stopped yearning for his one true love and musical protégée, Christine Daaé.
Now one of the world’s finest sopranos, Christine accepts an invitation to travel from Paris to New York to perform at a renowned opera house. Christine’s marriage to Raoul is suffering at the hands of his drinking and gambling and they desperately need the financial rewards that America can give them.
In a final bid to win back Christine’s love, The Phantom lures her, Raoul, and their young son Gustave, from Manhattan to the glittering and glorious world of Coney Island – not knowing what is in store for them.
Since its premiere in 2010, LOVE NEVER DIES has enjoyed productions worldwide in London, Australia, Denmark, Japan and Germany, as well as multiple recordings including a concept album and a London cast recording. A DVD release of the Australian production has delighted fans globally, and now the North American tour brings the musical to the US for the first time.

Hey DSM Fans!
There are so many great things about working at Dallas Summer Musicals. One of our favorites is the opportunity to explore the Music Hall at Fair Park, especially… The Dungeon. It’s like a giant time capsule, preserving DSM’s extraordinary past. We snapped a few pictures and created a slide show just for you. Enjoy!

Hey DSM Fans!
Here’s an overview of what is coming up From The Back Row: The Interns Perspective.
In the next couple of weeks, we will be doing a lot of exciting things around the Music Hall at Fair Park and we want you to be with us every step of the way. As we get closer to the opening night of PETER PAN, the excitement and the anticipation of the show is growing. Coming soon you will be able to watch our personal sit down interviews with not only Cathy Rigby (Peter Pan), but Brent Barrett (Captain Hook), the amazing Darling Children and many other cast members. Along with a personal video tour of the Music Hall and backstage area, you will also be able to see a special time lapse of the PETER PAN crew setting up the stage and getting ready for the opening night. We will be tweeting live (@dsmusicals ) from Good Morning Texas, NBC, FOX 4, CBS and WFAA during interviews with selected cast members and we will keep you updated when all of this are airing. We are looking forward to the adventures that are coming to the Music Hall at Fair Park.
We’ll also take an in-depth look at what Dallas Summer Musicals does to prepare for the arrival of a show, and everything that goes on during its run at the Music Hall at Fair Park in a piece called, ShowBUSINESS.
Did you know that the Music Hall made its debut on October 10, 1925? Nineteen TWENTY FIVE!!! Personally, we think that’s incredible! Dallas Summer Musicals began in 1941, with Opera Under the Stars in Fair Park’s Band Shell. Ten years later, DSM productions moved out of the heat, and into the newly air-conditioned Music Hall at Fair Park. I am determined to wipe the dust off of our star-studded past and bring it back into the spotlight with Haley’s Hall History. The list of “greats” who have graced the Music Hall at Fair Park’s stage over its 87-year span is fascinating- Judy Garland, Maurice Chevalier, Carol Channing and Liza Minnelli- to name a few…
Due to the random nature of our day-to-day tasks, Luke and I are usually pinballing around the office. We have the privilege of mingling with the wonderful DSM staff, and we think it’s time for you to meet them! Not only will we introduce you to everybody behind the curtain here at DSM, but we’ll also sit down with DSM President, Michael Jenkins in A Minute with Michael.
Be sure to SUBSCRIBE, as we bring the magic straight FROM THE BACK ROW, to you!

Hey DSM Fans!
Well, The Tony Awards were last night, and there’s been plenty of conversation here at the Music Hall as we recap our favorite moments. A few of my personal favorites include:
-Show opening with “Hello” by 2011’s winner for Best Musical, THE BOOK OF MORMON
– NEWSIES performance, mainly Ryan Steele’s fouettes
-NPH’s SPIDER-MAN rig malfunction (that show will never hear the end of it.)
-Nina Aryanda’s acceptance speech, particularly her first-crush confession to Christopher Plummer, a.k.a. Captain Von Trapp
The Grand Champion of the evening, ONCE, took home a total of 8 Tonys. Although I have not yet seen this show, I get the feeling that the awards were well deserved.
Last week, Dallas Summer Musicals held a “Tony Awards: Predict the Winners” contest. We decided it would be fun to gather information from all the submissions, and present to you… drum roll please…

Jenkins, President and Managing Director, Dallas Summer Musicals and Dallas Summer Musicals (DSM) were bestowed with the incredible honor of winning the 2007 Tony Award® for Best Special Theatrical Event for Jay Johnson: The Two and Only. He joined the esteemed group of Broadway and Hollywood stars on stage to bring two medallions back to Big D, accepting a Tony Award® both on behalf of DSM and himself as a producer of the award-winning show. The DSM medallion is proudly showcased in the lobby of its rightful home at The Music Hall at Fair Park.

Boeing-Boeing, produced in part by Dallas Summer Musicals and Michael Jenkins, won two Tony Awards®, one for Best Revival of a Play and one for Best Performance of a Leading Actor in a Play, Mark Rylance. Both Dallas Summer Musicals and Michael Jenkins played a huge part in producing this hilarious play revival on Broadway, resulting in Jenkins bringing home two more Tony Awards® to Dallas.
Boeing-Boeing continued to win awards, being named the winner of two 2007 – 2008 Drama Desk Awards® for Outstanding Revival of a Play: Boeing-Boeing by Marc Camoletti and Outstanding Actor in a Play: Mark Rylance, resulting in two Drama Desk Awards brought home to Dallas, one for Dallas Summer Musicals as a producer and one for Michael Jenkins as a producer.
The Drowsy Chaperone and Jersey Boys each earned a Dallas Fort Worth Theatre Critics Forum Award in the Touring Production category, resulting in six major theatrical awards to DSM and Jenkins in 2008.
A visionary leader in Dallas’ entertainment community, Michael A. Jenkins consistently brings the “Best of Broadway” to DSM. The 2010-2011 upcoming season is no different with a sensational line-up in the final stages of determination.

The Tonys are presented by the Broadway League and the American Theatre Wing.
The Drama Desk was founded in 1949 to explore key issues in the theater and to bring together critics and writers in an organization to support the ongoing development of theater in New York. The organization began presenting its awards in 1955, and it is the only critics organization to honor achievement in the theater with competition between Broadway, Off Broadway and Off-Off Broadway productions in the same categories.
