Broadway Dallas News | MARCH 2025

Posted on March 26th, 2025

Dear Friends,

Our beloved Music Hall at Fair Park turns 100 years old this October! We are planning a number of exciting things to celebrate this monumental occasion – and we need your help. Over the next few months, we are collecting stories from you, our patrons, about memorable experiences you have had at the Music Hall over the years.

Perhaps you saw Maria Callas perform with the Dallas Opera… proposed to your spouse on the stage… saw Christina Aguilera open for Beyonce and Destiny’s Child… went into labor during the second act of 42nd Street… or were in the audience when Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. spoke…

We want to record and share your stories, some of which will be made part of a permanent video archive and an upcoming documentary.

Think of your most cherished Music Hall memory and then visit www.broadwaydallas.org/MusicHall100 for more information about how you can participate the next time you visit the Music Hall.

See you in the lobby!

Disney’s The Lion King Exhibit

We have partnered with our neighbors at the African American Museum, Dallas to unveil a new exhibit, From Africa to the Broadway Stage: Disney’s The Lion King, that explores how African artwork and designs are reflected in Disney’s THE LION KING.

The exhibit features elements from the original Broadway production of THE LION KING alongside a curated selection of African art and artifacts from the permanent collection of the African American Museum. The exhibit is open now through the run of THE LION KING this summer (June 4 – July 3). Click here for more info on the exhibit and partnership.

The African American Museum is the only one of its kind in the Southwestern Region devoted to the preservation and display of African American artistic, cultural, and historical materials. Museum Members receive exclusive information about exhibitions, programs, free admission to special events, and more.

dallas isd day at hadestown

On February 27, 3,400 Dallas ISD high school students filled the Music Hall to see a dedicated performance of HADESTOWN free of charge. Over the course of multiple weeks leading up to the performance, the students and teachers participated in a specially created curriculum developed to prepare students for college and 21st-century careers. This year, students utilized algebra and geometry to design and construct scale model creative iterations of the New Orleans inspired HADESTOWN costumes.

Visit our gallery to see the students’ amazing work!

Black art matters intensive

Broadway Dallas’ Black Art Matters program hosted a Musical Theatre Vocal Performance Intensive led by the incomparable Richard Baskin, Jr. who is a 2024 NAACP Theater Awards winner and a former cast member of Freestyle Love Supreme on Broadway. Through the span of the 4-day workshop for which the artists were paid to attend, artists individually worked directly with musical theatre veterans from Broadway and other highly acclaimed professional institutions and organizations to finetune their vocal ability, explore new forms of expression that centers and amplifies their own personal identities.
