Hey DSM Fans!
Well, The Tony Awards were last night, and there’s been plenty of conversation here at the Music Hall as we recap our favorite moments. A few of my personal favorites include:
-Show opening with “Hello” by 2011’s winner for Best Musical, THE BOOK OF MORMON
– NEWSIES performance, mainly Ryan Steele’s fouettes
-NPH’s SPIDER-MAN rig malfunction (that show will never hear the end of it.)
-Nina Aryanda’s acceptance speech, particularly her first-crush confession to Christopher Plummer, a.k.a. Captain Von Trapp
The Grand Champion of the evening, ONCE, took home a total of 8 Tonys. Although I have not yet seen this show, I get the feeling that the awards were well deserved.
Last week, Dallas Summer Musicals held a “Tony Awards: Predict the Winners” contest. We decided it would be fun to gather information from all the submissions, and present to you… drum roll please…

* – accurate prediction
According to Dallas voters, NEWSIES should have come out on top, with 5 Tonys, including Best Musical. Dallas agreed with Tony voters in 9 out of 17 categories. We received close to 50 contest entries, and nobody made a perfect prediction. However, congratulations to our contest WINNER: Chelsey Hall – She accurately predicted the winners in 13 out of 17 categories! Way to go Chelsey!
ONE MORE THING-
It’s not too late to win PETER PAN tickets! Put your Tony Awards show knowledge to good use, and take our follow-up quiz: www.dallassummermusicals.org/specialevents.shtm .
The contest ends Wednesday, June 13 at 11:59pm. GOOD LUCK!
